Following the game, the entire Islanders team saluted the fans for their support throughout the season, and presented their jerseys to a few lucky fans who won an online auction, supporting the Islanders Childrens Foundation. Ryder took a cross-ice pass from David Krejci on a 2-on-1 rush with Doug Weight as the lone Islander back on the play. Ryder lifted the puck over an outstretched Islanders goaltender Yann Danis for his 27th goal of the season. Phil Kessel gave the Bruins a two goal lead at the 15:20 mark of the first period for his 34th goal of the season. Kessel was in the right spot at the right time, corralling a rebound off a Blake Wheeler shot and shooting the puck past an out-of-position Danis to put Boston ahead 2-0. Marc Savard put the Bruins ahead 3-0 early in the second period on a power play goal. Just seconds after Richard Park was robbed on a shorthanded opportunity by Boston goaltender Tim Thomas, the Bruins turned the other way toward the Islanders zone. Savard took a Mark Recchi pass behind the Islanders net and caught Danis looking the wrong way, wrapping the puck around the open side for the 3-0 lead. Phil Kessel gave the Bruins a 4-0 lead just four minutes later on another power play goal. With Andy Hilbert in the penalty box for tripping, Kessel corralled a loose puck in the left face off circle to the right of Danis, skated towards the slot and sent a wrist shot past Danis for his second of the game.
